The shop

A room that smells of bay rum, cedar and hot lather.

Ironwood Barber Co. started in a two-chair room off Park Avenue with a hand-me-down Koken chair, a leather strop and a stubborn idea: that a haircut is worth slowing down for. Ten years later we've grown to six chairs and a small army of loyal regulars, but the idea hasn't moved an inch. We named the place for the live oaks and the hickory that shade this town — slow-growing, hard-wearing, built to last. That's the standard we hold every cut to.

We are not a franchise, and we are not a salon. We're a barbershop in the old sense of the word — a place where a man can drop in on a Saturday morning, read the paper, talk about the Magic's chances, and walk out with a cut that holds its shape for weeks. Everything here is done by hand and by eye. No numbers barked across the room, no rushing you out of the chair before the mirror's turned.

Winter Park is a town that pays attention to detail — brick streets, live oaks, storefronts that have been here for generations. We try to earn our place on it. Whether you're nineteen and getting your first real fade or you've been getting the same side part since the Carter administration, the chair is yours for as long as it takes to get it right.

Every barber here is state-licensed and trained the long way — apprenticing on real heads, not on a mannequin for a weekend. We keep it that way on purpose. A fade is geometry you can't fake, a shave is trust you have to earn, and both take years of reps to do quickly and well. When you sit down, you're sitting with someone who has cut through every cowlick, crown and hairline the good Lord invented, and knows what to do about yours.

What we do

Services & the honest price

Every service includes a consultation, a hot towel and a straight-razor neck finish. Prices are per visit — no surprise add-ons at the register.

  • Signature Haircut

    $38

A full scissor-and-clipper cut built around your hair, your head shape and how much time you actually want to spend on it in the morning. Washed, cut, styled and finished with a hot towel and a razor neckline. Roughly 40 minutes in the chair. It's the cut most of our regulars get every three weeks, and the one we'd point a first-timer to — versatile, timeless, and easy to keep looking sharp.

    ≈ 40 minBook
  • Skin & Taper Fade

    $42

Our most-requested cut. A seamless blend from skin — or from a soft taper — up into length on top, walked out by hand with three sets of clippers and finished with a foil shave for a crisp, clean edge. Bring a photo or trust the barber; either works. Low, mid, high, drop or burst — if you don't know the difference, that's fine, we'll figure out the right one for your hairline and how you like to wear it.

    ≈ 45 minBook
  • Straight-Razor Shave

    $45

The full ritual: warm lather, two hot towels, a pre-shave oil and a proper straight-razor pass with the grain and against it. Finished with an alum block and a cold towel. It is the closest, calmest shave you will ever get, and forty minutes you'll look forward to all week.

    ≈ 40 minBook
  • Beard Sculpt & Line-Up

    $28

Shape, trim and a razor-sharp line along the cheek and neck so your beard looks intentional instead of accidental. We map the lines to your jaw, blend the transition into your fade if you've got one, and finish with beard oil. Add to any cut for $20. Growing one out? Come in anyway — we'll tidy the edges and coach you through the awkward weeks so you don't give up in week three.

    ≈ 25 minBook
  • Kids' Cut 12 & under

    $26

First haircut or fortieth, we make it easy. A booster board across the chair, cartoons on the mirror TV, patient hands and a lollipop at the end. Parents get a photo of the first cut, and we keep it low-key for the ones who aren't sure about the clippers yet.

    ≈ 30 minBook
  • The Full Service cut + shave

    $70

The works: a signature cut and a full straight-razor shave, back to back, with an extra hot towel and a scalp massage while the lather sets. Block out an hour, put your phone away, and leave feeling brand new. The best gift you can give a groom, a graduate or yourself. It's also the appointment to book before a wedding, an interview or a big birthday — there is no faster way to feel like the sharpest version of yourself walking out a door.

    ≈ 75 minBook

Every price above is the price you pay — the consultation, the wash, the hot towel and the razor finish are already in it, not tacked on after. Prices held steady since 2022. Cash, card and contactless welcome. Active military, veterans and first responders always take $5 off — just tell your barber.

We sharpen our own shears and strop our own razors. Clippers are stripped, brushed and disinfected between every single client — barbicide jars on every station, fresh blades, fresh towels, no exceptions. It's the unglamorous part of the job, and it's the part that separates a real shop from a chain.

Your visit, start to finish

No mystery, no rush.

If it's your first time in, here's exactly how it goes. The whole thing runs on the barber's clock, not a stopwatch — but we respect yours, so appointments start on time and we'll always give you an honest wait if you've walked in. Nobody here is trying to turn a chair over; we're trying to send you out with a cut you're glad you drove for.

  1. 01

    The consult

Before a single clipper turns on, your barber runs a hand through your hair, asks how you wear it and how much effort you actually want to put in day to day, and talks you through what will and won't work with your hair type and head shape. Honest advice, every time — if a style you saw online won't sit right on you, we'll tell you and offer something that will.

  2. 02

    The wash

A warm wash and a quick scalp massage with cedar-and-bay shampoo. It relaxes the hair, lifts it for a cleaner cut, and — let's be honest — it feels good. This is the moment your shoulders drop and the week starts to fall away.

  3. 03

    The cut

Scissors, clippers, or both, worked slowly and checked constantly in a three-mirror setup so the back looks as sharp as the front. We cut to the way your hair actually falls, not to a template, and we check in as we go rather than reveal a surprise at the end.

  4. 04

    The finish

A straight-razor neckline and edge-up, a hot towel, and a light styling with a product matched to your hair — matte clay, a low-shine pomade, or nothing at all if that's your thing. We'll show you how to recreate it at home so it looks this good on day three, not just day one.

  5. 05

    Out the door

Mirror check, a rundown of what we did so you can ask for it by name next time, and a rebook if you want to lock in the same barber and slot. Then you're back on Park Avenue looking like the version of yourself you had in mind.

Meet the barbers

Six people who take this seriously. Book by name below, or let the front desk match you to whoever's open — they're all this good.

Marcus Rivera, master barber and owner of Ironwood Barber Co.

Marcus Rivera

Owner · Master Barber

Opened the doors in 2014 and still cuts six days a week. Twenty years behind the chair, a hand for classic scissor work, and the man to see when you want a cut that looks like it grew that way. Learned the trade in Tampa, trains every barber who comes through Ironwood, and treats a regular's standing appointment as sacred.

Best for: Classic cuts · Scissor work · Grey blending

DeShawn Carter, fade specialist at Ironwood Barber Co.

DeShawn Carter

Fade Specialist

If it blends, DeShawn can build it. Bald fades, drop fades, burst fades, and designs if you're feeling brave. Fast, precise, and the reason half our under-thirty regulars won't sit in anyone else's chair. He'll match a photo down to the guard number, or freehand something better if you let him.

Best for: Skin fades · Tapers · Line work & designs

Sal Bianchi, straight-razor and shave master at Ironwood Barber Co.

Sal Bianchi

Shave Master

Learned the trade from his father in Jersey and has been shaving with a straight razor for thirty-five years. Sit in Sal's chair for the full hot-towel shave and you'll understand why people drive from Orlando for it. He talks a little, works slowly, and has never once nicked a customer — ask him about it and he'll just smile.

Best for: Straight-razor shaves · Hot towels · Traditional cuts

Nina Kovacs, all-round barber at Ironwood Barber Co.

Nina Kovács

Barber · Texture & Kids

The most versatile hands in the shop and, by unanimous vote, the best with nervous first-timers — kids and adults alike. Great eye for texture and curl, endless patience, and the kind of chairside conversation that makes an hour fly. She teaches a Saturday-morning apprentice class and still remembers every kid's name and their team.

Best for: Textured cuts · Curly hair · Kids' cuts

Between visits

Make the cut last.

A good cut does most of the work, but the two or three weeks after are on you. None of this is complicated — a few honest habits keep a fade crisp and a beard behaving, and stretch the time between chairs without letting things get shaggy. Think of it like a good pair of boots: a little care, regularly, and it looks better and lasts longer than anything you buy new every month.

Ask your barber to recommend the products that actually suit your hair, and pick them up at the front desk — we only stock the ones we use ourselves, so there's no wall of guesswork. And when in doubt, just come see us: a two-minute neckline tidy between cuts is free for regulars, and we'd far rather keep you looking sharp than watch a good cut go to seed.

Book your next chair
  • Wash less than you think

Shampooing every day strips the natural oils that keep hair and scalp healthy. Two or three washes a week is plenty for most; rinse and condition on the days in between. Cooler water, and pat — don't scrub — dry.

  • Style on damp, not soaking

Towel-dry to just-damp before product. A little goes further than you'd guess — warm a small amount between your palms first, work it from the back forward, and add more only if you truly need it. Overloading is what makes hair look greasy by lunch.

  • Oil the beard, comb it daily

A few drops of beard oil after a shower keeps the hair soft and the skin underneath from flaking. A quick comb trains the beard to lie the right way and shows you early where it needs a trim before it looks unruly.

  • Book before you need it

A fade looks its best for about two weeks and starts to lose its shape by week four. Rebook on your way out for the same barber and slot — the regulars who do this never have a bad-hair fortnight, and they never wait for a chair.

  • Match the product to the hair

Fine hair wants a light clay or a matte paste for grip without weight; thick or coarse hair takes a firmer pomade. High shine reads dressier, matte reads modern. Not sure which camp you're in? Ask at the chair and try a pea-sized sample before you buy.

  • Mind the neck and sideburns

The neckline and sideburns are the first things to go fuzzy and the first thing other people notice. A cheap trimmer at home, used sparingly along the lines we set, buys you an extra week — just don't chase it upward, or you'll undo the shape.

Word of mouth

What the chair hears

"Best fade in Winter Park, full stop. DeShawn takes his time and it looks perfect for three weeks. I moved to Baldwin Park and still drive back."

— Andre W. · regular since 2019

"Took my six-year-old for his first haircut terrified he'd melt down. Nina had him laughing in two minutes. We framed the photo they gave us."

— Priya S. · Maitland

"Sal's straight-razor shave is the best fifteen minutes of my week. Hot towels, no rush, and I walk out feeling twenty years younger."

— Robert T. · Orlando

"Found Ironwood a week before my wedding and booked the whole party. They squeezed in five of us, everyone looked sharp in the photos, and Marcus even steamed a boutonnière's worth of nerves out of me. Regular now."

— Chris D. · Baldwin Park

"I've got the kind of cowlick that defeats most barbers. Nina figured it out on the first visit and it's been right ever since. Worth every mile of the drive from Lake Nona."

— Marcus L. · Lake Nona

Find us

On Park Avenue, under the oaks.

You'll find us mid-block on Park Avenue North, between the coffee roaster and the old bookshop. Look for the red-white-and-blue pole and the warm light in the window. Two-hour free parking on the street, and the Winter Park SunRail station is a five-minute walk.

Park Avenue is the best kind of errand: get your cut, grab a coffee two doors down, walk the brick sidewalks under the oaks. We're proud to be a fixture on it. Make a morning of it — plenty of our Saturday regulars turn a haircut into breakfast at the diner and a lap around the farmers' market, and we're happy to time your appointment around it.

Good to know

Questions we hear a lot

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Both work. We keep chairs open for walk-ins every day, but Saturdays and late afternoons fill up fast, so booking online guarantees your spot and your barber. If you walk in, the front desk will give you an honest wait time before you commit.

How much does a haircut cost?

A signature haircut is $38 and a skin or taper fade is $42, both including a wash, hot towel and razor neckline. The full price list — shaves, beard work, kids' and senior cuts — is right above. No add-on surprises at the register.

What should I bring for a fade or a new style?

A reference photo helps, but it isn't required — our barbers are happy to talk it through and recommend what suits your hair and head shape. If you're growing something out or between styles, just say so and we'll cut toward the goal, not away from it.

Is the straight-razor shave safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. We use fresh single-use blades, a pre-shave oil and a proper hot-towel prep to soften the beard first, which is exactly what prevents irritation. Tell your barber about sensitive skin or ingrown hairs and they'll adjust the pass and the products.

Are you good with kids?

Very. Nina in particular has a gift for nervous first-timers. We've got a booster board, cartoons on the mirror TV and endless patience. First haircuts get a keepsake photo and a lock of hair if you want one — just let us know.

Do you sell gift cards and products?

We do. Gift cards are available at the front desk and online in any amount, and they never expire. We also stock the pomades, beard oils and aftershaves we actually use, so you can keep the cut looking sharp between visits.

How often should I come in?

It depends on the cut. A tight fade looks its best for about two weeks and wants a refresh every three; a longer scissor cut or a grown-out style can happily go four to six weeks. Your barber will give you an honest interval on the way out, and rebooking then means you never have to think about it.

Can I book the whole group — a wedding, a birthday, a team?

Absolutely, and we love it. Groom's parties, milestone birthdays, a dad-and-lads Saturday — give us a call at 407-555-0148 and we'll block out chairs so everyone's done together. For larger groups we can open early or stay late, and we'll happily put coffee on.

What are your hours, and when's it quietest?

We're open Tuesday through Friday 9–7, Saturday 8–5 and Sunday 10–3, closed Mondays. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the calmest — if you want a walk-in with no wait, that's your window. Saturdays are wonderful and busy, so book ahead.

How do I pay, and do you take walk-in tips?

Cash, all major cards and contactless all work, at the chair or the front desk. Tipping is always appreciated and never expected — cash or on the card, whatever's easy. If you loved your cut, the kindest tip of all is booking your next one and telling a friend.

Your best cut is
one booking away.

Walk in, or lock in a chair right now — it takes about thirty seconds. Either way, you'll wonder why you waited, and we'll be glad you finally did.
